Every carnaval association in the Netherlands has its own set of patches, larger ones for the back of the jackets and smaller ones for other spots. Together with the carnaval group, I designed a playful sloth, which has been their symbol since the beginning. The patches incorporate the carnaval colors from the various villages and cities the members come from. Since some villages have more members than others, the colors are unevenly distributed to reflect this.
Every year, the Malse Mannen distribute thousands of stickers during carnaval and throughout the rest of the year, reaching places all around the world. Each year features a new sticker design that contributes to telling the story of their character. As seen through these stickers, the character has evolved annually, developing into the figure it is today.
This year, the group decided to start creating their own pins. After discussions with the group, we settled on a design featuring their signature scarf, symbolizing all the different villages the members come from.
